Angami Students’ Union (ASU) will be holding its 30th biennial general conference under the theme “Rational integrity” at Tuophema village from April 28-30.
Informing this at a press conference at ASU office, convenor of the conference, Kelhouneizo Yhome said over 2000 student delegations from the four ranges including Western, Southern, Northern, and Chakhroma, were expected to attend the conference.
Referring to the theme for debate during the conference, “If it is time to lift the NLTP Act”, Yhome said a recommendation based on the outcome of the debate would be submitted to the chief minister and the state government.

Joining the discussion, co-convenor of the conference, Neidilhoutuo Sechü, informed that principal of Japfü Christian college, Visakono Hibo, would be the critique for the debate while judges includes president, Kohima Press Club (KPC) Alice Yhoshü, former journalist Sebastian Zumvü and Neivikuolie Nicholas Khatsu.
Sechü said the topic for the debate was chosen due to its relevance.
The other topic, he said, was on the Urban Local body (ULB) elections with 33% women reservation, however, as the civic body polls were called off the student body decided to deliberate on the NLTP Act to understand the perspective of students on the issue.
ASU advisor Vizokho Zashümo informed that a total of eight students, two each representing the four ranges, would be debating on the topic on the second day of the conference.
Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse and advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu Kense, would grace the conference as special guests for the inaugural and valedictory sessions respectively.

Advisor of School education & SCERT Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, MLA and Rev. Fr. Pezalhoukho George Rino will grace the inaugural, academic, and devotional sessions as guests respectively.
Angami Students’ Union had earlier extended non-cooperation to the office of the incumbent NSF on the in-service doctors’ superannuation issue, in this regard, Yhome, informed that the organizing committee of the conference did not include NSF in the schedule.
However, he hoped that the issues between the two student bodies would soon be resolved.
Meanwhile, Angami Students’ Union president, Bisevi Nakhro, informed that several rounds of talks were being held with NSF to settle the differences.
