John Govt. Higher Secondary School (JGHSS) Viswema observed its 70th anniversary at the school assembly hall with secretary NPSC, Khrupi Sothu as the chief guest on August 27.
According to DIPR report, Sothu, in his speech said, “today we are grateful to the founding members and land donors of the school who had a vision for the betterment of future generation and established the School and further handed down to us”. He said the JGHSS was now 70 years old and is considered the 3rd oldest school in Nagaland which has produced a number of great leaders, bureaucrats in different fields from Southern Angami villages and other Naga villages from neighboring state of Manipur.
Even though the school was considered as one of the best school in Nagaland but with the fast paced changes in the education sector, the school performance was sadly sliding backward in the last ten years, he added.
Sothu said that the state government has upgraded the school to higher secondary school in the year 2014 and the school has now HSSLC exam centre, the first batch of HSSLC 2016 result was 70.59 % pass percentage which shows the sincerity and dedication of the teaching faculty members. He therefore encouraged all the stakeholders, teachers, parents, students, and the managing board and all concerned to come and reason together for further improvement of the school.
School headmaster, Krope Koza in his welcome address said that the commemoration of 70th years of JGHSS in such special manner was for the upcoming platinum jubilee celebration which would be held in 2021 and also to create awareness among the well-wishers. Others who gave short speeches included Vikulto John Sop. Peren; Rusovil John member secretary Nagaland Pollution Control Board and SMB K.N. Pusha, U.K. Nair. JHSS choir presented a special song and Tati song was presented by Beizo and Kuolemenuo. The chief guest also released the school Magazine while vote of thanks was said by Dr. Chumbeni Kikon principal JGHSS.
