Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), All Sumi Students’ Union (ASSU), Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) and Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) have jointly demanded the construction of a foothill road connecting Dimpaur with Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon at the earliest.
The five students unions in a representation submitted to the state chief minister on June 10 has also asked the government to give a positive response to their demand within 30 days.
The students unions have also highlighted the harassment meted out to Naga travelers who had to pass through neighboring state Assam to reach various destinations within the state citing the example of May 24 Mariani incident.
The unions said it was “unbecoming” on the part of the state government for not constructing the foothill road despite the fact that Nagaland was turning 50 years this December.
