
Adolescence girls’ awareness programme organized by district education office (DEO) Kohima cum district project office (DPO) under RMSA programme was held at DPDB conference hall Kohima on Tuesday.
Assistant state co-ordinator, state resource centre for women development Nagaland, Juliana Medom in her brief introduction on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” said it was not only about education and health care of girl child but also the need of participation by them in society. Medom said that adolescence girls needed guidance during their physical body changes such as, menstrual health and cautioning against teenage pregnancy. She also stressed the need of safe environment and positive contribution to the society by the adolescence girls.
She reminded the parents and teachers about their responsibilities of observing the behaviours of their children and adolescence girls and other social issues. Medom said counselling and proper dealing with adolescence children could prevent them from turning into negative persons in many areas. She advised the teachers and parents to let the adolescence children dream and encourage them accordingly.
She informed the gathering that there was one stop centre for women at Kohima where one could get help related to any form of violence against women. She also stressed the need to create awareness to the men folk and the consequences of violence against women.
Vitsino Iralu, lawyer, also addressed the gathering in the programme chaired by Kepelhuzo Terhüja assistant district education officer (ADEO) Kohima while vote of thanks was proposed by district education officer (DEO) Kohima, Piholi Swunetho.
