Eastern Nagaland gazetted Officers’ Association has appealed to the leaders and citizens of Kiphire district and Shamator area “to work for a sense of calm.”
In a press release, ENGOA president Er. S. Changkei Konyak and general secretary Dr.M.C. Longai Phom said that while others were watching the present impasse that has gripped Kiphire and Shamator area, the leaders and citizens of the district and area were expected to behave maturely and not to be swayed by rumours and incite animosity and violence furthermore. Pointing out that Nagas drew security from one’s tribal identity, the association said it was important to ensure that “we respect each other’s identity and not polarise one’s attitude and behaviour with negativism and outside influence.” ENGOA said the worst affected in this turmoil were the students appearing HSLC and HSSLC exams, women and children. The association, therefore, appealed to the tribal leaders concerned to contain the situation in the spirit of maturity and understanding and ensure that peace prevails in the land.
