Edn director stresses on common literature for Nagas

Director school education, B. Tingshem Konyak while stating that ‘Nagamese’ has weak grammatical structure, emphasized on the need to think over on its usage in future.

He was speaking as the special guest at the post graduate students’ union Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Meriema literary day on the theme ‘Paradigm Shift’ at Ura Academy Hall on Saturday.

Tingshem while citing that Konyaks have more than 30 ranges and speak various dialects, said researchers and scholars should study thoroughly so as to bring out a common literature or language of the Naga people.

He said there are three different languages in the country i.e. Hindi, English and mother tongue, but Nagas are weak in Hindi and stressed on the need for a common language to communicate with one another.

While lauding the PGSU for choosing the topic ‘Nagaland University is contributing towards the development of Naga society’ for the debate competition, he also expressed lauded the fact that Naga society was becoming stronger by the day and looked forward to a better Naga society.

In the context of the present Naga society, he said having a job was not a problem but getting the job and not working was the problem.

In the debate competition, he overall championship was won by treasury bench, while the first prize was bagged by Mehimo Apon (against), 2nd- Longshithung (motion).

In the duet competition- Dziesevinuo/Zavivonuo were placed first and Viriezhunuo Kuotsu/Asanuo Kire second. 

In the essay competition held on the topic: Role of Youth in peace building in Nagaland’, Kikruneinuo won the first prize and Ulla Fernandez second.
