Minister for school education & SCERT, Nyeiwang Konyak on Monday said the SIT and the secretariat were responsible for the mess which brought about stiff opposition by various unions on regularization and retention of teachers under doubtful category,
In an exclusive interview with Nagaland Post on the sidelines of Independence Day celebration in Mokokchung, Nyeiwang said a departmental verification committee was constituted as there was a conflict between the reports put up by the vigilance department and the departmental verification report, and that the government was keen on providing justice to genuine teachers with genuine documents who have been serving the department for more than 3-4years.
He further disclosed the department had conducted the suitability test to accommodate those who were selected against SSA and RMSA sanctioned posts, but kept the matter in abeyance as the department faced stiff resistance from all the tribal Hohos and NGOs.
With regard to demand for posting local dialect speaking teachers, the minister said the government after giving it a thought, decided to appoint primary teachers who can teach in local dialect in their respective areas.
On the recent announcement by HRD ministry to extend RTE to extend the scope of Right to Education (RTE) to secondary level, Nyeiwang said Nagaland can accept RTE up to class 8 only as the state was still far behind the national level.
Pertaining to the demand put forth by the Eastern Nagas for appointment of their own people as teachers, he said those days when the Eastern Nagas were not “rightfully educated”, teachers were appointed from the advanced tribes but after few years, they (teachers from the advanced tribes) became nostalgic and went back to their respective villages, districts along with the posts. This is why the minister said the Eastern Nagas are insisting to retain posts as well the teachers of their own areas.
“25% job policy reservation is there in Nagaland so accordingly the recruitment will be applied”, added the minister.
