District Congress Committee (DCC) Peren said it had taken serious note of the complaint lodged against the state chief minister T.R. Zeliang for allegedly providing false information about his educational qualification at the time of filling his nomination paper for the 2013 state general election and in other official documents.
DCC Peren president Aluibe Iheilung said the integrity of the state police should be shown to the people, at this juncture by upholding the spirit of fairness and justice.
The DCC president said though T.R.Zeliang was from a rival party, yet a man of his stature after becoming the chief minister was also the pride of the DCC Peren , since he represents the people of 7 Peren Assembly constituency.
Iheilung also said people had great hope on T.R.Zeliang that he would develop the district and uplift the living standard of the people he represented on becoming the state chief minister. However, DCC Peren claimed that in the last two years as chief minister, no tangible development could be seen in the district and that people’s hope would be crushed if the state police took the case to its logical conclusion.
Admitting that no educational qualification was mandatory for a person to contest state election, Iheilung, however, said one should be truthful and honest to himself and to the people he represented. He also said a person should not give false information on affidavit adding that what one sowed, one would also reap the same.
Iheilung said the case should be taken up without fear or favour and that it was also expected from the chief minister to give fair chance to the police to investigate this case.
