Minister for forest, ecology, environment and wildlife Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire has asked Kohima district administrator and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) to work out a uniform meat rate for the entire district.
Speaking at the inauguration of a butcher shop initiated by Lerie Youth Organization under National Mission Food Processing (NMFP), Friday, Dr. Nicky also said that the concern department officials, KMC and district administration should make sure that the animals were slaughtered in a hygienic environment.
He also expressed concern over complaints regarding tampering of weighing scales by butchers and asked the youth organization not to indulge in such activity.
While congratulating LYO, Dr. Nicky asked them not to think of earning huge profit from the very beginning but to concentrate on doing quality business and sustaining it.
Additional director industries and commerce Bendangliba in his brief address acknowledged the LYO for the initiative taken under NMFP and asked them to be sincere.
The newly inaugurated shop will remain open from 7-5 p.m. and local breed pork will be made available for the consumers. The programme was chaired by Beizo
Khamo.
