
Focusing on National Food Security, a two batch training programme on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and crop production technology was held at Farmer’s Hostel from May 13-16. The training programme was organized by State Agricultural Research Station (SARS), Yisemyong, Mokokchung under National Food Security Mission.
Delivering the keynote address in both the trainings, junior plant breeder (JPB), training coordinator T. Supongmar Longchar said the programme was organized for the benefit of Wet Rice cultivation farmers and to create awareness in cultivating the cereal crops in a better and more Scientific Method of Cultivation.
He also spoke about the present food scenario against ever increasing population growth in the country. The training mostly focused on practical oriented crop production technology of coarse cereal crop and special reference to System of Rice Intensification (SRI).
During the training programme, asst. plant pathologist (APP) Maongsangla delivered on the topic of Pest and Disease Management for better plant protection. An interactive session with the farmers was also held after the programme where the farmers highlighted various problems faced by them in their field.
More than 50 farmers from 22 villages and also field functionaries attended the training and benefitted from these trainings. At the valedictory function, distribution of Training Certificates, seed materials, line markers, conoweeder to the participants marked the occasion.
