Thahekhu Village Council (TVC) has appealed the PWD, (R&B) to repair the weather-beaten bridge at National Highway 37 connecting (Dimapur, Lumding and Halflong road.
The council stated this section of road and the dilapidated bridge falling inside the boundary of Thahekhu village also happened to be the only lifeline for other Naga villages – Sangtamtilla, Tsithrongse and Tilla Basti connecting the commercial hub of the state.
Council chairman, K. Kakheho Yeputhomi and secretary, Heloto K. Anche expressed that during the recent spate of heavy rains and flood, the already pathetic road and unsafe condition of the bridge further deteriorated with only two wheelers able to ply over it.
The council further stated that the issue was made known to the department in-charge to initiate immediate repair or construction works at the earliest. However, the council expressed dismay that no positive response has been received till date.
To facilitate light vehicular movement temporarily on this stretch, a joint social work was conducted by Thahekhu and Sangtamtilla village council on August 26 where logs, wires and earth were used as a makeshift to offer some respite for commuters for the time being.
The council therefore urged the department to immediately redress this “pertinent public grievance”.
