Ungma Senso Telongjem, Kohima (USTK) celebrated the premier festival Tsüngremmong Thursday with Ao community dressed in their best traditional finery by both young and old at Kiti hall, Old Minister Hill, Kohima.
Aotongbang Jamir, an elderly man who spoke about the significance of the occasion said after Moatsu-the spring festival, the Ao Nagas celebrate another festival called Tsüngremmong, which is performed in the entire Ao village to honor of all Tsungrem (God).
Stating that Tsüngremmong was a day where everyone, rich or poor come together to give thanks, merry make, seeking blessing and forgiveness, he was a time to celebrate and make merry for both the young and old, as various traditional dances, folk songs and games enthrall the audience.
He also said during this occasion, Ao tribesmen sing and dance to express gratitude and pray for a good harvest. This festival gives an opportunity to the youngsters to demonstrate their intellectual skill.
Earlier in the program, heralding of the occasion was said by president USTK, a song was presented by the organizer Rongsenmayang and Masalepden, important announcement was given by R. Lepden Jamir, executive member, Women Folk of Ungma Womans’ Union presented a special traditional song, A traditional ballad by Rendimongba Jamir, cock fight in traditional dance was performed by Chubamayan Jamir and Imlikumzuk Longkumar and a closing speech by Tongti Zülur, general secretary USTK.
