Global Hand washing day observed at Kiphire

Public health engineering department (PHED) Kiphire observed “Global Hand Washing Day”, sponsored by the water and sanitation support organization (WSSO) at Loyola Higher secondary school with EAC Hq Benjamin Longkap as chief guest. The programme was attended by students, teachers and faculties.
Speaking at the programme, chief guest said the issue of sanitation should not confine to the programme alone but has to be an ongoing process so that the surroundings, environment and the society become clean.
Advising the students present, EAC said cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene should go together and has to be way of life.
Lauding the department for organizing the programme, the chief guest said the initiative would disseminate healthy messages to the young mind, student community and the society.
The chief guest also asked the teaching community to give more effort in shouldering responsibly as students trusted teachers with all their heart.
Later, the chief guest took part in hand washing demonstration. PHED executive engineer Subongyanger, who gave the key note address, shared the origin of hand washing. He said washing hands would prevent many diseases such as dysentery, diarrhea and acute respiratory diseases.
He also read out the pledge and asked all the students to take active part in it.
Rev Fr Benny welcomed the gathering and SDO Akokba Sair chaired the programme. Special song and documentary on hand washing were the other highlights of the programme.
‘Global hand washing day’ in Zbto
District water and sanitation mission (DWSM), public health engineering department (PHED) Zunheboto division observed “Global Hand Washing Day” at Youth Hall, Zunheboto on October 15 under the aegis of WSSO, PHED, Kohima, Nagaland.
Speech on hand washing, negative impacts of unhygienic village condition and its measures, importance of cleanliness and the ways to keep the village and its surrounding clean was delivered by PHED, Zunheboto junior engineer Hotolu Sumi.
Prevailing water quality, ill effects of water borne diseases and its preventive measures was presented by DWSM, PHED, Zunheboto chemist Benathung Tsopoe.
Oath taking on water and sanitation and vote of thanks was conducted by IEC consultant, DWSM, PHED, Zunheboto Kiyeshe Chishi.
Every participant was given soap and demonstration on hand washing was carried out by junior engineer Hotolu Sumi followed by 12 students.
More than 200 students, teachers and PHED staffs attended the programme. The programme was chaired by PHED, Zunheboto division junior engineer V Mughalu Sumi while PHED LDA Hutoli Sumi said the invocation.
