The practices of corporal punishments in government and private schools have been reported in several part of Nagaland.
According to joint director addl. charge of district education officer Rouvihulie Angami, complaints on corporal punishment in both government and private schools have been reported, which was creating fear psychosis in the minds of the students towards their teachers and the school administration.
Further, he said certain complaint has also been reported to the authority regarding giving heavy assignment that was beyond the capacity of the students and parents. Sating that in some cases, students were being asked to refer internet to do their home works, Rouvihulie Angami said there were many who have no access to such facilities.
With regard to this, the officer said this may be presumed that the motive behind the teachers to give such kind homework to the students was to get the ideas about the answers of textual critical questions from student’s parents or home tutors.
The officer has appealed to all the teachers both the government and private schools to stop such kind of practices. He further cautioned that any teacher was found indulging in such kind of practice would be seriously dealt by the higher authority.
