Asserting it had conducted Phase-I inspection at ongoing and completed PMGSY roads within the Sangtam jurisdiction under Kiphire district July 2-31, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), while appreciating the nodal department for their initiatives, has expressed dismay over the poor workmanships executed by the various contractors.
In a press release, USSC president T. Pithrongse Anar and general secretary Achum Thonger said during the inspection, they found out that the machinery, equipments and manpower were not sufficient enough to expedite the work within the given stipulated period as per the DPR.
United Sangtam Students’ Conference stated that they also detected use of poor quality materials.
According to USSC, beneficiary villages also expressed “utmost” displeasure over the improper implementation of the said scheme.
They reportedly stated that despite of their sincere appeal some contractor had gone up to the extent of threatening and warning the poor village elders. As such, USSC said the village council leaders had no choice but stop extending cooperation to the respective contractors.
They also stated that many contractors did not pay heed to their request instead resulted in confrontation and misunderstandings.
USSC taking all these into account has appealed to the nodal department to intervene immediately and inspect the same with respective village council leaders and NGOs to prevent further misunderstanding between the government and the public and for proper implementation.
USSC also urged the nodal department to withhold any bills under Sangtam jurisdiction for the interest of the Sangtam people.
Conference directed all the contractors to immediately stop the ongoing works with effect from the date of publication of this letter till further notifications from its office. Meanwhile, the signatories have requested all the village elders to extend cooperation to USSC.
