Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dimapur conducted inter-state farmers training programme on “Processing and Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables” May 25-27 at Barpeta, Jorhat and Assam considering the growing demand for value added food products.
The training was organized to educate the participants on the importance of value addition, to give a wider use of the farm produce and to encourage small-scale enterprises and to provide employment opportunities for the local community.
Resource person of the programme was an entrepreneur and proprietor of the Meghalee food products Megha Bora, the recipient of several awards at both state and national level for her successful venture.
She encouraged the participants to take up similar activities. During the technical session, methods on preservation and processing of some products of the Meghalee food products like pineapple, lemon, carambula, orange and pomello squashes, lychee jelly, pineapple jam, tomato sauce, chilli, bhoot jolokia and bamboo shoot pickles etc was explained in detail.
The training was followed by the practical session and preparation of pickles like mixed vegetable pickle, green chilli pickle, brinjal pickle, woodapple squash etc.
Importance of hygienic and attractive packaging for fetching better markets and packing technique of the food products was demonstrated.  Altogether, 20 farmers and ATMA officials attended the training programme.
ATMA Longleng organizes farmer’s interstate tour & training
Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longleng organized inter-state tour and training for progressive farmers of Tamlu block to Shillong from April 22-26. The tour was under the initiative of MAMETI Shillong. Farmers visited Wakhen village under Pynursla block known for orange production. There, farmer to farmer interaction benefited the participants. The farmers visited all the important places in Shillong as a part of learning experience during the tour. ATMA Longleng also conducted training at CIH, Medziphema May 13. Altogether, 24 farmers attended the state training and interstate tour.
