One person was hacked to death while another woman was critically injured after a person identified Tsüksumnungba, son of Tayongbenba of Longmisa village, attacked the duo with a dao (machete) here on Wednesday night.
According to eye witnesses, the victim Rongsentemjen Longkumer, son of late Sashisangba of Dibuia, in his mid 70s, was attacked after trying to intervene in quarrel between the injured woman identified as Züngasangla, wife of Lanunochet and her brother said to be “mentally disturbed”.
The accused after hacking the victim and also injuring his sister was about to attack two minor nephews when the neighbours intervened. The victim’s body was taken to Civil Hospital morgue .
Relatives and villagers of the victim who gathered at the hospital went berserk but they dispered only after admission by the Longmisa Union Dimapur to the Dibuia Senso Telongjem Dimapur that one of its member admitted to the hacking.
Talking to Nagaland Post, Ningsangwaba Pongen, president, Dibuia Senso Telongjem Dimapur, said the body will be taken to Aoyimti, Dimapur, where a funeral will be held on November 8 before burial at Dimapur.
The accused was taken into custody along with the dao (machete) used and a case has also been registered.
