
In connection with the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO) H. Hushili Sema has ordered that carrying of licensed arms have been prohibited under Section 144 CrPC, 1973 in the district till the election process was over.
Any violation of the order would lead to the arms being impounded, said an order passed by the District Election Officer. The Deputy Commissioner has also asked all licensed armed owners to deposit the same at the nearest police station.
In another appeal, the District Election Officer informed that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or fees to the electors during the election process was considered “bribe” and that both the persons, offering and accepting such bribes could be punished with imprisonment up to one year and also could be fined.
DEO H. Hushili Sema said flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep a watch over such activities and to check movement of items meant for inducement of electors during the election process. The District Election Officer has also mandatorily directed that all Heads of Departments (HoDs) under Dimapur district to appoint a nodal officer to liase with the office of the Deputy Commissioner and DEO to ensure smooth and efficient communication and correspondence.
DEO H. Hushili Sema has asked so submit the details of the nodal officers on or before March 13.
