Fire deptt. rebuts DDWTU allegations

O.C Fire Station Dimapur said the accusations made by the president Dimapur District Welfare Trade Union(DDWTU) against the fire department on the December 14 fire incident, was to shame and tarnish the image of the department despite its personnel rendering selfless sacrifice to serve the public.
Issuing a clarification, the OC, Wati Jamir said the “misconceived and biased article” by the DDWTU terming the fire personnel as “unprofessional and lacking in preparedness” was “unfortunate and uncalled for”.
He said fire broke out at around 9.30 p.m. and the station received calls through two mobiles at 9.47 p.m. Fire tenders reached the spot within five minutes at around 9.52 p.m. However, they were prevented from discharging their duties by a group who harassed and manhandled the personnel. Had this not taken place, then loss of life and properties could have been averted, he said.
The OC said he was amazed to read the wild allegations, that fire tenders arrived with empty tanks. Had it been so, then how was the fire doused?, he asked.
He cautioned against such misleading allegations which only demoralised the personnel in serving the public.
The OC appealed to general public , various colony GBs, chairmen, youths and volunteers to extend all possible help and cooperation during such incidents so as to enable the department to provide better services.
