Rajya Sabha MP and NPF leader H. Khekiho Zhimomi Saturday asked the educated unemployed youth to vote for the right candidate in the ensuing state assembly election so that their issues could be properly addressed.
Khekiho was speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of Chekiye Village Students’ Union (CVSU) here at Chekiye Village. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Khekiho said it was time for the educated unemployed youth to choose the right candidate and a leader who can look into their needs and welfare.
Extending his greetings to the gathering on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebration, Khekiho said that if the elections were held, the people of Chekiye should know under which government they would prosper.
As a voter, the people should know the objectives of the candidate and what he or she could do for the people, said the Rajya Sabha MP. Stating that society needed a strong foundation for the younger generation, Khekiho pointed out that Nagaland was at the crossroads.
He said the dark side of civilization was the emergence of the “haves and have-nots” and asked the gathering where the Sumis as a community fitted in such a situation.
The MP said though parents invested so much to educate their children, there were still so many educated unemployed youth and urged the youth to take the right decision while electing their leader.
Khekiho also expressed gratitude to late Chekiye Zhimomi, the founder of the village and stated that it was only because of him people could inhabit in Chekiye village.
He also expressed pride in the fact that Chekiye Village had produced many bureaucrats, politicians, lawyers, entrepreneurs etc. He added that it would not be difficult to take the right decision for the development of the village.
Earlier, the chief guest also inaugurated the silver jubilee monolith. The silver jubilee celebration was attended by hundreds of Chekiye village residents including students, bureaucrats and well wishers.
Hundreds attend jubilee
On the first day of the two-day CVSU silver jubilee, hundreds of Chekiye village residents attended the inaugural and the evening session.
During the inaugural session, the village residents were enthralled by myriad cultural extravaganzas including Sumi warrior dance, songs and merrymaking.
Students from neighboring villages – Ikishe and Thilixu village attended the inaugural function and presented traditional Sumi folk song and dance respectively. After the inaugural session, the gathering was treated with a sumptuous jubilee feast.
Later, in the evening, CVSU silver jubilee souvenir was released by chief guest, Dr. K.C. Nihoshe Yeptho while president Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU), Mughato N Awomi delivered a short speech, followed by a special number presented by Kheto Chisho and the band.
Special judge and district and session judge, Khesheli Swu will speak on the jubilee theme “Retrospecting for Innovative Future” on the second day celebration on Sunday while MLA and former chief minister, K.L. Chishi would grace the valedictory session as the chief guest.
