All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) concluded its education tour at Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma with a state wide candle light vigil programme organized in all its affiliated colleges on March 5.
A press release from ANCSU president Vimeyiekho Vitso and general secretary, Imnameren N Jamir stated that, during the education tour ANCSU sensitized the students on scholarship, and appealed those students not entitled for scholarship to give up on applying. Union apprised the students that the union could detect 18 kinds of scholarship schemes, which ANCSU has demanded that it should come under a common nodal cell. ANCSU regretted that despite the cabinet approval and notification issued for setting up of the cell in the month of October 2019, the students are yet to see the cell functional, stated the release.
Speaking at the programme, Kohima Science College Students, general secretary highlighted on the brief history of the college land issue, failed eviction exercises and present status of the land issue. Through this state wide programme, ANCSU informed that the union would compile the grievances and suggestions it received from the colleges and pursue them to the concerned authority on priority. The candle light vigil programme concluded with a mass prayer in all the colleges.
ANCSU also reminded the state government on the ultimatum it has served on February 21, 2020, that within 30 days the government call for a joint meeting for settlement with all the stakeholders of colleges to solve the land issues, and “that within 40 days to sent the 110 assistant professors post to Nagaland Public Service Commission, appointment of principals to those government colleges without principal and establishment of the nodal cell”.
The third phase of touring encompassed, Modern College Kohima, Baptist College Kohima, Oriental College Kohima, Kohima College Kohima, Government Polytechnic Kohima, NIELIT Kohima, Alder College, Sazolie College and Kohima Science College Jotsoma.
