As the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic lockdown continues, district administrations, various civil society organisations and individuals have come forward and offered relief packages, financial and medical assistance to those in need.
RCK community service: Rotary Club of Kohima (RCK) carried out a three week community service Rotary project “Kohima we care” from April 20 to May 17 in Kohima to help the needy during the lockdown crises. Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu stated that, Rotarians distributed relief rations to five hundred and fifty families, identified through the Naga Mothers’ Association and Rotarians. The beneficiaries were given essential food commodities sponsored by Rotarians and donor friends of the Club.
Beneficiaries were single mothers, widows, daily wagers, students and siblings from far flung areas, cancer patients, victims of domestic abuse, HIV positive families and Naga war veteran families. Club also handed over Rotary nutrition rations to the vulnerable communities in Old Age Home, Kohima, Bright Morning Star Orphanage, Kripa Rehabilitation Centre and NMA Cradle Ridge, Seithogei as well as the children and young people of the Rotary Gift of Life, Free Heart Surgery.
RC Kohima also handed over Rotary surgical masks and hand sanitisers on May 17, to the Kohima Press Club president for media personnel, for Police and Traffic police to the officer in charge, North Police Station, Kohima and to the medical officer, Primary Health Centre, Kohima that looks after Kohima village, Chedema, Rusoma and surrounding colonies.
MTLT relief work: Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) reached out to the villages lying in the Assam-Nagaland border belt in its fourth phase of relief work.
A press release from MTLT convener Merang Longkumer and vice president Martoshi Longkumer stated that, MTLT taking into account the villagers living in the border areas (Assam-Nagaland) had sensitized them and also distributed relief materials to 14 villages.
Deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawapang Jamir flagged off the MTLT relief teams which were divided into three groups. DC assured that the government, especially the district administration, was doing its best and asked the people of Mokokchung district not to panic, to follow the COVID-19 protocols, and to reach out to each other.
Pastor of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church, Rev Ponen Longchar invoked God’s blessings during the send off programme. President of Ao Senden, Chubawati graced the flagging-off programme of MTLT COVID-19 coordination committee relief works.
MTLT had formed a MTLT COVID-19 coordination committee under the leadership of Merang Longkumer to coordinate with the district administration, the ward authorities and the stakeholders in this collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
AIM ASIA: AIM ASIA, Dimapur under the theme “COVID-19 Reliefs” distributed essential commodities towards the fellow citizens, especially to the daily wage earners, widows and “poor families” living in Burma Camp, East Block, Dimapur.
