A week-long Skill Training for Rural Youth (STRY) programme on “Fish Rearing and Management” and “Bee Keeping” was conducted by ATMA Peren and Tuensang at their respective district headquarters.
In Peren, the training programme on fish rearing and management was conducted from September 13 to 18, at Sub-Division Fishery Office, Jalukie.
The training was organized by ATMA, Peren in association with SAMETI, Nagaland and MANAGE, Hyderabad.
A press release by ATMA Peren, stated that DPD Tonikali Achumi, while briefing the participants pointed out that the training was conducted to impart skill based training to rural youths so as to create skilled manpower and promote employment in rural areas.
Resource persons from Fishery Department introduced youths to fish rearing and farming methods, common carp rearing and its breeding practice, integrated fish farming systems and sport fishery, fish diseases, their control and treatment etc.
Fishery demonstrator, Chubatemjen, technically trained youths as well as conducted interactive sessions and discussions on various topics.
He also further emphasized on feasibility and practicable of fish farming at field level which helped participants to get better understanding on the subject.
ATMA Tuensang: In Tuensang, the training on bee keeping was held from September 13 to 18. A press release by ATMA Tuensang, stated that resource person for the training programme were Imkongsipong of Land Resources Department, Longkangba, a progressive honeybee farmer and DPD ATMA, Dr. Toshimenla.
The release added that the training was conducted with an aim to promote employment and impart skill-based training.
25 rural youths of Yakor and Sangphur village under Shamator block, Tuensang were selected to attend the week long training on bee keeping.
The programme covered various topics such as introduction to beekeeping, bee biology and behavior, beehives equipment, annual colony cycle and seasonal management, honeybee disease and pest management, other hives products, harvesting and processing etc.
Hands on demonstration on assembling and dissembling a beehive, extraction of honey from honeycomb were demonstrated during field visit to apiary units.
The programme was conducted in association with State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and National Institute of Extension Management (MANAGE).
