Expressing concern over decrease of student enrollment in government schools, principal director of school education Nagaland, Smita Sarangi, emphasized on the need to increase the number of enrolment in government schools.
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Yajen Aier Government High School (GHS) Mopungchuket on October 27 at village community hall, Sarangi said it was time to relook and think on why enrolment was going down in government schools.
She also informed that education department has been going through a dynamic phase at the moment and that some exercises of rationalization are being carried out at the moment so as to improve the quality of education.
Sarangi asserted that the department was serious about improving the education system in the state.
She also congratulated the school on achieving the milestone and for securing 91% passed percentage in HSLC 2017 in its first appearance of HSLC examination.
Sarangi encouraged the students to work harder and bring more laurels to the village and the state and expressed her appreciation to the school’s teachers for their relentless efforts. She also appreciated the Village Education Committee (VEC) for serving the community to the best of their ability.
In her maiden visit to the village, Sarangi assured to do her best to ensure that education system was improved in the days to come. She also released the school’s golden jubilee souvenir.
Yajen Aier Government High School Mopungchuket was upgraded to a high school in the year 2015 and the new name of the school was adopted the same year after Yajen Aier, who hailed from the village and was the first Naga deputy inspector of schools and retired as director of education in 1975.
Other speakers at the function include DEO Mokokchung, S.T. Nokdang Longkumer; EAC Kubolong C. Phuniang; VEC chairman, K. Alem Aier and retired secretary Development Authority of Nagaland, N. Bendang Ao, who spoke on behalf of the family members of Yajen Aier.
Other highlights of the function included performance of the school’s anthem and the jubilee song by the school choir; special number by youth department Mopungchuket Baptist Church. Alumni, students, parents and well wishers attended the celebration.
