A community funded project where extension of two classrooms and renovation of school building at Government Middle School (GMS), Phezoucha, New Secretariat area, L. Khel Kohima village, was inaugurated by advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, here on Tuesday.
In his speech, Yhome, hoped that with the cooperation of everyone, Department of School Education (DoSE) would be able to look after the 1,939 government schools across the State that were in need of attention and be able to review the status of those schools in the state.
He pointed out that although there were schools all over the state, not every school enjoy the community support like that of GMS Phezoucha.
In this regard, he expressed happiness on the leadership quality exhibited by the school led by head teacher Supeno Mozhui.
He observed that the growth of a school was not possible without a dedicated team and that the building of the community-care with the involvement of the school teachers, SMC and the public at GMS Phezoucha was appreciative.
The newly appointed education advisor informed that several outsiders were showing interest to invest in the education sector in Nagaland through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) therefore, DoSE would soon open a dedicated CSR cell.
School Managament Committee (SMC) chairman Dr Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, said that the school commenced in 2005 and had been awarded the best performing GPS in 2011.
Later, it was upgraded to GMS in 2021 and therefore required more classrooms, he said pointing out that initially the SMC sought funding from the department but could not materialize and so they decided to rise local funding from agencies and well-wishers.
He said that the school had started Class 7 and 8 from this academic session but due to lack of classroom capacity many were denied admission.
Commissioner & secretary Kevileno Angami, mission director, Samagra Shiksha, Temsunaro Aier, principal director, Thavasaleen K, director Wanthungo Tsopoe, joint mission director, Samagra, Dr Kevizakie Rio were also present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that the two room extension and renovation of the GMS building was done with the generous contribution of around Rs 8.25 lakh by well-wishers, church, colony members, 17 teachers of the school and through fund drive measures undertaken by the SMC of the school without waiting on government funding.
The school has an enrollment of 176 students including 91 girls and 85 boys, with 17 teachers, along with head teacher.
