A capacity-building training program on homestay management and tour guiding was organized by department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) on October 3.
The event was held coinciding with the celebration of Mini Hornbill Festival “Yemshe”.
President of the Nagaland Tourism Association Vimeto Vakha, led the first session, focusing on “Tourism Potential in Nagaland and Homestay as a Business.” He discussed the unique cultural and natural assets of Phor village and stressed the potential of homestays in providing authentic visitor experiences while preserving the community’s heritage.
The second session, led by Veshehu Kezo, general secretary of the NTA, focused on “Tour Guiding as a Profession.” Kezo provided insights into the skills needed to become a successful tour guide, emphasizing knowledge, communication, and professionalism. He encouraged local youth to explore tour guide as a promising career, given the increasing interest in Nagaland as a tourism destination.
The training attracted participants from Phor and surrounding villages, fostering discussions on sustainable tourism development.
Earlier, the training began with an invocation by Yichutu, associate pastor of New Phor Baptist Church. Lazithu Trakha welcomed the gatherings and S. Peter Trakha, Senior Tourist Officer of Phek district, delivered the keynote address.
