Head Hunters emerged as champions of the 8th Captain Kenguruse MVC memorial football tournament after defeating Mez & Co. 3-0 in the final on Tuesday at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
In a thrilling final match went into extra time, Pursunep broke the deadlock in the 93rd minute, and Thanglenhao and Visieto followed up with goals in the 113th and 115th minutes, sealing Head Hunters’ victory and crowning them champions of the tournament.
Earlier in the day, the third-place match was played between Halcyon United and Dynamo FC. Halcyon United delivered an emphatic 7-0 victory over Dynamo FC. Halcyon’s relentless offense was spearheaded by Vebizo, who completed a stunning hat-trick with goals in the 8th, 34th, and 53rd minutes.
Erikulo added to the score with two quick goals in the 24th and 29th minutes, while Eneibe and Petevizo secured their dominance with goals in the 40th and 49th minutes, respectively.
Halcyon United’s commanding performance earned them a well-deserved 3rd place finish, and Dynamo FC was celebrated for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
The champions Head Hunters FC pocketed a cash amount of Rs. 3,00,000 with trophy, certificate and medals, while the first runner-up Mez & Co FC received Rs. 1,50,000/- with trophy, certificate and medals. trophy, Certificate, medals, and a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000/- trophy, certificate and medals.
The third place Halcyon United received Rs. 75,000/- with certificate and medals and the fourth place Dynamo FC received Rs. 50,000/- with certificate.
In the individual awards, player of the tournament was bagged by Hamping L (Head Hunters FC) and received Rs. 13,000 with trophy; the Golden Boot award was bagged by Kevisanyu (Maverick FC) with 6 goals, who also received Rs. 13,000 with trophy.
The Golden Glove was bagged by Dziesengulie (Head Hunters FC) with Rs. 8,000 and trophy; Best Defender by Thejangulie Zatsu (Mez & Co FC) with Rs. 8,000 and trophy and Best Midfielder by Winamthiu (Head Hunters FC) with Rs. 8,000 and trophy.
The closing ceremony was graced by Advisor I&PR, Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen as the chief guest. Honoring the memory of Captain N. Kenguruse, MVC, Imchen paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldier.
He emphasized that Capt. Kenguruse’s legacy serves as a powerful inspiration, reminding everyone of the values of selfless service, sacrifice, and integrity.

Imchen expressed optimism for the future, inspired by the young leaders and changemakers gathered. A special halftime performance by the winners of the “Ticket to Hornbill” Fifth Note band battle added to the celebration, making it a memorable finale to a spectacular tournament.
