Match week 6 of the Seniors Master League 2 (SML 2) saw thrilling contests as Essa Warriors, Kohima Old Boys, and Lhomithi Veterans SC registered victories over their respective opponents. Defending champions Essa Warriors continue to lead the points table.
Essa Warriors dominate Kohima Legends
In the first match of match week 6, defending champions, Essa Warriors maintained their winning streak, defeating Kohima Legends by 25 runs.
Batting first, the Warriors posted a moderate chase of 143/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Alongba scored 51 off 42 balls, while Raza Baruah added 52 off 41 balls.
Kohima Legends’ bowlers Theja, Mengu, and Chumben, managed a wicket each, but couldn’t prevent the Warriors from setting a strong target.
In reply, Kohima Legends struggled against the disciplined bowling attack of the Warriors and were bowled out for 118 in just 18.4 overs.
Tapito scored 33 and Kenei scored 22 provided resistance to the Warrior’s bowling department, however Raza Baruah’s exceptional bowling performance dismantled the opposition, claiming 5 wickets, while Michael and Alongba took wickets 2 each.
Raza’s was declared as the Man of the Match.
Kohima Old Boys Cruise Past Nzon CC
Kohima Old Boys showcased their dominance with a comfortable 8 wicket victory over the debutants Nzon CC.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Nzon CC managed to set a target of 126 for 6 in 20 overs. Meshenti contributed 35 runs and Wati added 23.
The Old Boys’ bowlers Lanu, Mesetshilong, and Kevilelie, each picked up a wicket, denying the opposition from setting a good target.
The Old Boys reached the target in just 12.4 overs, finishing at 127/2. Mesetshilong scored a good 44 runs while the in-form Anga Shuya scored 56, dismantling Nzon CC’s bowling attack.
Lhomithi Veterans SC Triumph over Chumou Blasters
Lhomithi Veterans SC registered a convincing 26 run win against Chumou Blasters in a high-scoring encounter.
Batting first, the Veterans posted a target of 158 for 7 in 20 overs, coming from the contribution of Enam Uddin’s, who scored 48 off 34 balls and Toni Chishi’s 33 off 32 balls. Rex Sema also added a valuable 24 off 19 balls before being run out by Moalong.
In the bowling department, the Veteran’s Sudama and Toni Chishi claimed 2 wickets each while conceding 18 and 34 runs, respectively, in their four over spells.
The Blasters, in its attempt to chase the target, fell short, managing on 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. K Bovika Yeptho scored with 43 off 49 balls, supported by Nsamyibe’s 23 off 22 balls. Despite their efforts, the Blasters’ batting lineup failed to capitalize the bowlers of the Veterans. The Blasters’ bowlers led by Hekiye H Awomi with 2 wickets, along with Jenithung Ngullie, Along Jamir, and Nsamyibe picking up a wicket each.
