2 charred, others injured in bus fire

Two persons were charred to death and ten others injured when the Guwahati-bound bus with 28 passengers from Imphal, caught fire under mysterious circumstances, at Laohorijan, under Assam, some 100 meters away from Nagaland gate at around 8:30 p.m
According to eyewitness sources, fire from the engine of the Imphal bus ‘Airways Service’ bearing number MN-01-1664 suddenly burst into flames and engulfed the entire bus. The residents of the area said fire lasted for about 20 minutes before it was brought under control by some residents.
Traffic along the National highway came to a standstill for more than hour.
Residents of the area said that the two charred bodies were that of a male and a female passenger, but which were yet to be identified. The driver and handyman were taken into custody by the Assam police.
Some of the injured were admitted to Civil Hospital Dimapur.
