Nagaland State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), P. Talitemjen Ao addressed the meeting of Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments in the Civil Secretariat conference hall in Kohima on October 22.
This was his second address to the government officials at the highest level. His address was aimed at making senior officials well conversant with the objectives of the RTI Act 2005 and that implementation of RTI Act is being fulfilled and public are informed as per the Act.
In his address, P. Talitemjen Ao enlightened the officers about the duties and functions of the Information Commission and importance of PIOs who are responsible for providing information to persons requesting for information under the Act.
He said that PIOs should undergo training on RTI Act since they are not only responsible for providing information to persons, but also responsible for sensitizing the officers and staff in their respective organizations.
He also urged the government to update information of their departments that public are informed of their functions.
He said that Nagaland State Information Commission is on the job to prepare implementation of the Act covering two years and it would be placed before the Assembly by March 2009.
Therefore he sought information from departments on the implementation of the Act during the last two years.
Chief Secretary, Lalhuma expressed gratitude to the CIC for enlightening the officers on the Act and assured that training of PIOs will be conducted from time to time to make them conversant with the Act. Lalhuma also asked officers to give extra attention to RTI Act and its importance.
The other two State Information Commissioners were also present at the meeting.
