Niuland and Chumoukedima delivered commanding performances in their respective matches at the Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament (SMIDT) 2025 held on March 13. Niuland defeated Tseminyu by a massive 214-run margin, while Chumoukedima overcame Wokha by 21 runs in two thrilling contests at Sovima Cricket Ground.
In the first match of the day, Niuland put on an impressive display, defeating Tseminyu by 214 runs in a rain-affected encounter at Sovima Cricket Ground. Due to the weather, Niuland’s innings was shortened to 36 overs, and Tseminyu’s chase was limited to 20 overs.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Niuland posted a formidable total of 289/6 in 36 overs. Wahid Ali was the standout performer, smashing a brilliant 97 runs off 80 balls, supported by Afzal Choudhury, who added 69 runs off 67 balls. The pair’s contributions helped set a daunting target for Tseminyu.
Tseminyu’s bowlers, Henry Kent and Kechesin Keppen, each took 2 wickets for 49 and 50 runs, respectively, in 7 overs, but they couldn’t contain the runs flowing from Niuland’s batsmen.
In their chase of 290, Tseminyu was bowled out for just 75 runs in 20.1 overs. Selo Apon top-scored for Tseminyu with 17 runs off 12 balls, while Sinilo Kent contributed 13 runs off 16 balls.
Niuland’s bowling attack was led by Akavi A Yeptho, who was in sensational form, claiming 4 wickets for just 14 runs in 4.1 overs, ensuring there was no real resistance from Tseminyu.
For his match-winning knock, Wahid Ali was named the Player of the Match. His 97 runs anchored Niuland’s innings and paved the way for a comprehensive victory.
Chumoukedima edge out Wokha by 21 runs
In the second match of the day, Chumoukedima triumphed over Wokha by 21 runs in a thrilling contest at the Sovima Cricket Ground.
Chumoukedima won the toss and chose to bat first, posting a modest total of 104/9 in 20 overs. The top scorers for Chumoukedima were Mughavi Sumi (32 runs off 41 balls) and Neizekho Rupreo (19 runs off 12 balls).
Despite some resistance, Chumoukedima’s batsmen struggled to accelerate in the final overs. Wokha’s bowling was led by W Thechamo Odyyo, who put in an exceptional performance, taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs in 4 overs to keep Chumoukedima’s total in check.
In response, Wokha struggled to chase down the target and was bowled out for 83 runs in 20 overs. Lijanbemo Patton was Wokha’s top scorer with 25 runs off 24 balls, while Nzanthung Mozhui contributed 22 runs off 27 balls.
Chumoukedima’s bowlers, Neizekho Rupreo and Jonathan Rongsen, were in superb form. Rupreo claimed 4 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs, while Rongsen took 4 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs to dismiss Wokha for a below-par score.
Neizekho Rupreo was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance. His 19 runs with the bat and match-winning figures of 4/17 with the ball were instrumental in Chumoukedima’s narrow victory.
