Additional chief secretary and development commissioner, (IAS) Alemtemshi Jamir Tuesday has said Naga culture and tradition are not inferior to anybody and called upon the people for re-building rich culture tradition of the forefathers.
He was addressing the Eastern Nagas at a cultural festival held on the theme ‘consolidation of culture’ organised by Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Dimapur (ENSUD) here at DDSC Dimapur.
Speaking as chief guest, he said the meaning of “culture is little different from tradition and is incomparable to knowledge which could influence other people” He said culture is unique for all human races and could be employed for economic boom instead of developing one’s mental and physical growth. He also suggested that events like the cultural fest should be planned in bigger and grandeur manner, which would act as huge booster for tourism in the state.
Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Tochumong Yimchungru, pastor, Showuba village, followed by welcome address by president ENSUD Pushu Nyukthan, and special number by Dimapur Phom Students’ Union. Vote of thanks was proposed by secretary, social and culture, ENSUD Konjai T.Ailly, and benediction by Dochi Chang.
Some of the highlights of the programme included folk dances and songs presented by the various tribes of ENSUD namely Chang, Khiamniungan, Sangtam, Konyak, Phom and Yimchunger. Later the afternoon session was marked by a special show- ‘Colours of ENSUD’. Around three hundreds citizens from six tribes of ENSUD dressed in their colorful attire attended the function.
