Receptiveness key to learning: TR Zeliang

Minister for Planning & Coordination, Vet. & AH, TR Zeliang has said it was not only the quality of education but receptiveness to learning coupled with discipline, hard work, focus and realization of opportunities, which would emancipate the students and lead them to higher paradigm.
Addressing the 16 Freshers Social-cum-Annual Day of SD Jain Girls’ College as the chief guest here at the college premise Tuesday, the minister said that having shouldered the responsibility to learn with the teachers as their guide and mentor, a lot would depend on how receptive the students were, irrespective of backgrounds.
Exhorting the students to make most use of their school and college days, Zeliang reminded them that though learning was a continuous process, the period of formal education was very short.
“The opportunity to learn as a student comes only once in a lifetime. During this period, your sole focus should be learning and education, with teachers and peers available around you as your guides and mentor,” he said.
He further urged the students to develop the spirit of “I can do it”, to face the challenges, to contribute to development of society and to become valuable assets to the society.
While admitting to gaps in the education system, the Planning minister and former Rajya Sabha MP however said with the priority accorded to education in the 11th Five Year Plan, it was the endeavour of the State government to “overcome and correct the lacunae.”
The minister also lauded Sri Digambar Jain Society for establishing the first all-girls college in Nagaland, with the objective to provide an environment where the girl student can explore her potentials without fear and excel in the field of education.
Highlights of the function included lighting of lamp and release of college magazine by chief guest, distribution of awards to meritorious students, speech by College principal Dr. JC Das and secretary’s report.
A cultural programme followed in which the female students displayed their talents, which rivaled if not surpassed those of their male counterparts from other colleges.
