In an exciting day of cricketing action, Niuland and Dimapur emerged victorious in their respective fixtures of the ongoing 5th Late G. Rio Memorial Men’s U19 Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2025, held at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima.
Niuland clinches 29-run victory
Niuland edged past Wokha by 29 runs in a tightly contested, low-scoring affair. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Niuland were bowled out for 123 runs in 33.1 overs. Pawan Shiva top-scored with a steady 25 off 30 balls, while Wokha’s Shahil Uddin Laskar led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 4/42 in 10 overs, stifling Niuland’s batting lineup.
In response, Wokha faltered in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually getting bowled out for 94 runs in 37 overs. Liren M Jungio tried to stabilize the innings with a fighting 35 off 74 balls, but lacked support from the other end.
Sujit Kumar was the star performer for Niuland, claiming a match-winning 5 wickets for 21 runs in 8 overs, dismantling Wokha’s batting order and ensuring a memorable win. He was deservedly named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
Dimapur beat Mokokchung by 5 wkts
Batting first after winning the toss, Mokokchung posted 173 runs in 40.2 overs, anchored by a composed knock of 67 off 96 balls by Olemjung. Dimapur’s bowling was spearheaded by Rahul Kr Singh, who delivered a match-turning spell of 5/38 in 9 overs, picking up crucial wickets and applying pressure at key moments.
In reply, Dimapur chased down the target with relative ease, reaching 174 in 32.3 overs. Samir Ali led the chase with a fluent 63 off 56 balls, while Arnab provided stability with a steady 58 off 74 balls. Despite a disciplined bowling effort from Mokokchung, particularly Sungjemmongba (2/33 in 10 overs), Dimapur’s batting unit proved up to the task.
Rahul Kr Singh was adjudged the Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul, which played a pivotal role in restricting Mokokchung to a manageable total.
