Chumoukedima DPDB, Pungro SDPDB discuss key development plans

District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Chumoukedima and Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) Pungro at the monthly meetings on May 12, 2025, focusing on important development initiatives for the district and sub-division.


According to DIPR report, the meeting of Chumoukedima DPDB was chaired by advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio. The meeting began with a review of the previous session, followed by a welcome address from Zhaleo Rio and advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu Kense.


Among the key decisions, the board approved and forwarded society registration proposals for: Yimkhiung Soritsun Women Cultural Society (Ward 5), Forerunner Nagaland Foundation (Diphupar Village) and Block-5 Welfare Society (Thilixu Village).


However, the registrations for Riverine Educational Society (Thilixu Village) and Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Society (Diphupar ‘B’ Village) were deferred to the next meeting.


Other important discussions included: upgrading DIPR Office at Medziphema Sub-Division, proposal for a District Welfare Officer (DWO) post in Chumoukedima district and proposal for a separate Fire Station in Medziphema


A PowerPoint presentation by Nodal Officer, DDMA, Rendemo focused on disaster preparedness, structures, and an action plan for monsoon readiness. The house agreed to hold a mass social work initiative on Saturday, May 17, 2025, as part of monsoon preparedness efforts.


The board also assigned the District Child Protection Officer to present departmental activities at the next meeting. Meanwhile, the SDPDB Pungro held its monthly meeting at the ADC Office, Pungro, under the chairmanship of advisor and SDPDB chairman, S. Kiusumew Yimchunger.


The session reviewed ongoing road maintenance work between Pungro and Salomi, along with discussions on: construction of a waiting shed at VG Barrack, Pungro; stalled construction of Pungro Town Council Office due to the absence of town local bodies and upcoming construction of a Government Primary School (GPS) at Pinkim Village.


The board also discussed and approved: conversion of the Geology and Mining guest house into a sub-post; re-creation of the Forest Ranger Office, previously shifted out of Pungro; recognition and upgradation of St. John School, Kiusam and establishment of Little Angels’ Wing School, currently under provisional recognition. The meeting emphasized the need for adequate manpower and staffing to support Pungro’s administrative functions.
