Governor of Maharashtra, Dr. SC Jamir described Christianity as a peaceful and progressive religion, the gains of which were for the whole of mankind since Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of entire humanity.
According to a release issued by the OSD to the Governor, Jamir was addressing a gathering of Christian leaders from around the world Friday evening at Bangalore on the occasion of the release of the English Standard Version Bible published by the Bible Society of India (BSI).
Jamir said the Lord Christ had made a clarion call to all believers to spread the Gospel to all creatures of the world and that all true believers should shed their inhibitions and strive to enlighten the suffering humanity with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
Jamir appreciated the BSI for playing genuine role in disseminating the Holy Gospel throughout the length and breadth of the country and instilling spiritual wisdom in the lives of millions of people. He said the BSI during the last 200 years had translated the Holy Bible into more than 72 languages.
He hoped that the newly released English Standard Version Bible would serve as a hallowed source of blessings to all the Bible readers in the country and abroad.
“Holy Bible is the only true repository of timeless wisdom and divine holiness in this world” he said.
Jamir called upon fellow Christians not to retaliate against the communal forces that were attacking them but to preach the gospel with more determination and aggression.
“Persecution and harassment by depraved and malicious groups should not deter a true Christian from the path of truth and holiness and must not affect our endeavours of bringing the sinners to the redeeming embrace of Christ,” he said.
