Third round of Sub-National intensive pulse polio immunization (IPPI) was conducted in the two districts of Dimapur and Kohima on September 28.
In Dimapur, the IPPI programme kicked off with a function held at the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) early morning with CMO Dimapur Dr. K Solo administering the first polio drop.
Addressing the doctors, volunteers and parents, Dr. Solo said the State was taking all preventive measures especially in the backdrop of reports of fresh case of polio in Assam’s Maligaon district.
He said Dimapur being the gateway to Nagaland, the department was taking extra precaution and surveillance and making all efforts to immunize children between 0-5 years against the dreaded disease.
The CMO further solicited the cooperation of media and general public for successful implementation of IPPI programme.
District immunization officer Mrs. R Chielie said the department had set up 500 polio booths in Dimapur alone with more than 1,500 volunteers to cover every colony and area.
She also informed that volunteers would be conducting door-to-door campaigns in the next couple of days to administer polio drops to all children between 0-5 years in Dimapur.
