All Nagaland Electricity Field Workers’ Association (ANEFWA) has set the deadline to kick off its indefinite “tools down” agitation with effect from October 24 against, what it described government apathy towards its legal rights.
The association had served an ultimatum on the state power department to address its four-point charter of demands within 30 days on August 18 last. ANEFWA said despite lapse of 30 days the commissioner and secretary of the department, through an office letter dated September 19, 2011, had requested the association for sufficient time to the government to complete all formalities for addressing the demands.
In response ANEFWA extended the deadline in the interest of justice and concern for the administrative exigencies till October 12 and expired by October 13.
ANEFWA has demanded regularization of 381 posts of work-charge; filling up of all unfilled vacancies; enhancement of risk allowance from Rs.50 to Rs.300 identical to regular employees and enhancement of the present rate of uniform allowance from Rs.500 to Rs.700.
According to ANEFWA president Panger Pongen and joint secretary N.Lotha, the decision to begin agitation was resolved during its executive meeting held October 12.
“It was concertedly resolved that the association would stage indefinite tools down strike w.e.f. October 24, 2011,” they said.
The association said if the government did not meet its demands on or before October 23 then it would be compelled to stage the proposed agitation.
The ANEFWA also appealed to all concerned general public, NGOs, student bodies and establishments to bear with it. “It is reminded to all the authorities concerned to expedite the matter so that unwanted turn over may be avoided for the benefit of all,” the association leaders stated.
