State officials attend workshop on e-Governance in Bangkok

DIMAPUR: An e-Governance study tour for a 15 member team was conducted from April 3-11 in Singapore and Bangkok respectively by the department of information technology and communication.
On the invitation of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, the team participated in an e-Governance workshop and exposure visit to best practicing sites.
The workshop included present innovative e-Governance with emphasis on cases applied in Thailand, current developments in e-Governance, the challenges and achievements.
The workshop was further supplemented with site visits of leading applications of e-government programmes, including the best practices of e-Governance and the application of the National Single Window in Thailand.
According to the team members, progress towards e-government would be seen only when political and policy makers ‘speaks the language’ of e-government and champions the cause to propagate e-Governance from the highest level.
The team members were also of the view that IT&C should follow and enable changes in administrative functions and process re-engineering where there has to be very close interaction between IT&C and the reform of governance itself. Stress was also given on cross-agency collaboration and stakeholder consultations, which was critical for success.
The team visited a solid waste management facility and was accorded a conducted tour and enlightened on process of conversion of waste to generate electricity and energy, and re-cycling of non bio-degradable waste. The team was impressed with effective use of information communication technology for provision of various services such as regulation of traffic, issuance of speeding tickets, collection of toll tax electronically, etc in Singapore city.
