Parliamentary secretary SCERT and higher education Deo Nukhu Tuesday urged officers of school education department to inculcate a sense of competition to the students from a tender age.
He said this, while addressing the valedictory function of the two-day state level conference for the district and block level administrators of school education and SCERT at the capital convention Kohima.
Pointing out that text book knowledge alone could not motivate students with regard to their career, Deo emphasized that teachers should focus on the importance of other vocational subjects, games and sports to indentify the talents and interest of students.
Deo also appealed for better coordination among the members of the department to achieve the target of imparting proper education to the children.
Emphasizing the importance of Hindi language, the parliamentary secretary encouraged students to learn Hindi, which is the national language besides local dialect.
He also pointed out that the state was facing shortage of mathematics and physics teachers which he felt would lead to shortage of technical manpower in the state.
Commissioner and secretary school education and SCERT Nagaland T. Imkonglemba Ao IAS in his address, urged department officers to be agents of transformation to bring about positive changes in the society through education.
Ao suggested organizing such kind of conference quarterly and appealed to the members to extend their cooperation in the serving the community.
Prof. Neelam Sood NUEPA New Delhi in her concluding remark, termed the conference as fulfilling and fruitful.
Different group leaders from among the participants shared their suggestions for improvement and betterment of the department. Dr. Suman Negi from NUEPA proposed the vote of thanks.
