Classic play ‘Spartacus’ enthralls Mokokchung

National School of Drama (NSD) New Delhi in association with Department of Culture, Mokokchung Govt. of Nagaland and Tribal Art and Textile Museum Society Dimapur presented a play “Spartacus” by Badal Sarkar tonight at the Town Hall Mokokchung, Directed by Goutam Majumdar, also the camp Director of the workshop. This play was a culmination of a 45 day extensive workshop conducted by the NSD here where local youths participated at the workshop. During the workshop, the students were taught to perform as a team to explore their own historical and cultural identity in relation to the world at large. The resource persons for the workshop were also equally qualified in the subject matter with some having international credentials.
“Spartacus” – the play tonight, is an effort to awaken the hidden power which exists in all human beings. “When human endurance reaches its peak, a Spartacus takes birth within us…”.
The stage for the play was set with a local touch including, traditional costumes and music. The Director said that he tried to put them in a context of proscenium aesthetics and urban technology. The show indeed lived up to the expectations as the actors proved their talents with much professionalism. Indeed the show proved that Nagas too have talent in this field and if given the right impetus, there are great chances of making it into the bigger arena of acting. The show was graced by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Shri Bendangkokba.
