Water logging in parts of Dimapur

Several colonies and areas in Dimapur including United Colony, Nagarjan, Burma Camp, Dhobinalah, Khermahal, Naga shopping Arcade, Police colony and Airport area experienced water logging Thursday due to incessant rains in the morning.
Hundreds of families were displaced and property worth lahks of rupees were damaged in the artificial flood, official sources said.
Airport officials said both landing and take off of flights at Dimapur Airport were cancelled due to inundation of the runway, while in United Colony, which was the worst-hit colony, the water level rose to 6-7 feet.
Students of GPS Half Nagarjan had also to forgo their exams Thursday due to water logging in the school premises.
The district administration immediately swung into action and sanctioned Rs. 15,000 to United Colony comprising 8 sectors and Rs. 10,000 to Burma Camp and Dhobinalah, as immediate relief.
GB of United Colony Kenneth Tsopoe thanked DC Dimapur and his officials for sanctioning emergency relief fund to the colony.
ADC Dimapur and district nodal officer for district disaster management, Sedevikho Khro is assisting the flood victims with the help of Home Guards.
The administration also requested the government to provide immediate relief to the victims.
Meanwhile, members of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) led by their chairperson Khekaho Assumi also visited the waterlogged areas and affected families and assured to mobilize immediate relief measures.
DMC member Atomu Wotsa said during year 2002-2003, the government sanctioned a total of Rs. 24 crores to Ansari Company for construction of drainages in Dimapur, which were yet to be completed. He also alleged poor workmanship of the completed works.
