Known for its best ‘finishing touch’ in indigenous handicraft products especially in wooden products Diezephe village recognised as ‘clustered area’ by ministry of textiles, government of India, for the fourth time in a row inaugurated a six months integrated design and technical development project at Diezephe village Friday
Speaking at the function as chief guest Veprasa Nyekha NJS, additional district and session judge said it was imperative to create awareness as well as to create skill up gradation at various levels so as to encourage the local artisans, crafts persons and designers for adopting new designs, innovation of existing design as well as its diversification for the consumer markets. He also urged the local artisans and the trainees to showcase their products to other parts of the country so that identity and culture of Naga would be known. He called upon professionally managed and self-reliant community groups for active participation and mutual cooperation. While lauding the textile officers for their interventions to help the artisans he appealed them to come to terms with the contemporary look and recognize the local talents so that marketability of the items was enhanced.
A. Sahadev Singh, assistant director, D.C (handicrafts), marketing and services extension centre (Manipur and Nagaland) highlighting on the cluster scheme, said it gives a package of benefits to the clusters of various crafts to mobilize and form of Self Help groups for conducting training, design, workshops, exhibitions, common facility centers. The assistance of merging money was being provided to Self Help Groups, against which the banks are also entitled to give them loan facility, he said.
Vepranülü Nyekha, president, Chakhesang women Development Society, Diezephe whose handicraft products have received great recognition in the north east states said special focus would be given to handicrafts to enable the sector to increase both its contribution to exports productive employment and market development during the following six months training.
Designers Babita Pegu DC (handicrafts) who has been imparting training skills to the local artisans for the fourth years said the responses of the trainees was great and opined that thrust of the project was on a need based approach for integrated development of potential handicrafts clusters with the ultimate objective of their empowerment and hence sustainability for livelihood.
Diezephe village situated off Dimapur has about 600 residents with women mostly engaged in weaving and men folk occupied in various farming and plantation for livelihood. The integrated design and technical development project was launched under the scheme of Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana, (AHVY) more popularly known as the cluster scheme launched under10th five year plan.
Sungohilu pronounced the invocation and Sunghilu Veswü gave a welcome speech .The inaugural programme attended by village council members, pastor, GB was organised by Chakhesang women Development Society Diezephe and sponsored by development commissioner (handicraft) ministry of textiles, government of India, New Delhi.
