One person was apprehended as he was attempting to flee after snatching Rs. 29,000 from a cash counter at SBI Bazaar branch, Dimapur, Tuesday at around 1:30 p.m.
According to police, the accused identified as one Biren Rai (22) of Mararigaon village, Assam, went inside the counter and snatched cash while the cashier was away on nature’s call.
However, the cashier returned just in time and alerted the security personnel and bank staff who caught the accused red-handed. Police later recovered six sachets of itching powder from the accused. Police also arrested another person identified as one Siba Rai (18) of Kalipari under Diphu, Assam, from SBI Main branch and seized some sachets containing itching powder.
