The much anticipated Nagaland Music Safari 2008 Peren District got underway at the All Saints Higher Secondary School Auditorium, Peren Town on September 30. The show started from 3pm in the evening which initially saw five Local Artistes displaying and exhibiting Musical Instruments that is indigenous to the District. Mention may be made of “Mrabung” which is a stringed instrument producing a sharp and soothing sound. These Presentations went down well with the Crowd which also saw talented but latent Artistes showcasing their gift. Someone even went to the extent of producing a melody with a Guava leaf. It can be said that this hilly town this night, was alive with the sound of Music; with songs they have sung for a thousand years which reverberated all through the night.
With night falling and the Crowd getting even bigger, the live projection of the images indeed added much more color to this event with the number touching two thousand. The much awaited Band Competition got underway with “The Vibrants” taking the stage and opening the Show for the Band Competition. The nine Bands vying for the coveted title presented a number each and it can only be said that it was music and talent galore this night. The winners of Gospel Beat Contest 2007 “Felicity” lived up to the expectations of the delirious crowd as it can also be said of the band “Minstrel”. The Music Safari Peren District had two Bands in the form of “Eastern Fire” and “Intensifier” from Tening, “WoeBeGone” and “The Roar” from Peren Town, “Minstrel” and “The Vibrants” from Jalukie Valley, “Skyscrappers” from Heningkunglwa, and “Felicity” and “Rusty Dust” based at Dimapur all performing and belting out numbers much to the delight of the denizens of the District.
At the end of the day, it was Esther Dailiam who walked away with the first prize of Rs. 7000/- and a Cort Acoustic Guitar with Ms. Peheuyile and Mr. Vikhoto contenting themselves with the second and third prize respectively. Felicity romped home with the much coveted Winners title in the Bands category while Minstrel of Jalukie and WoeBeGone of Peren had to content themselves with the second and third prize respectfully. Felicity walked away with a handsome amount of Rs. 15000/- along with a Phonic Roadgear 260 plus while Minstrel and WoeBeGone got richer by Rs. 10000/- and Rs. 7000/- respectively. While, Ms. Ngimbamle of Felicity was adjudged the Best Vocals from among the Bands, Mr. Asia Dailiam of Minstrel walked away with the Best Lead Guitar. The Best Bass Guitar in the Band category was won by Mr. David of Felicity while Mr. Namdewang of Minstrel was adjudged the Best Drummer. They were all awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3000/- each. The Show was anchored by Mr. Marang Hegui, Director, the Bridge.
An initiative in the right direction, the Bridge who are the Event Managers of Peren District acknowledge the enterprise of the Music Task Force in undertaking such bold and courageous project. In so doing, the Bridge is honored to be a part of the Music Safari while lauding the Project Director Gugs Sema for reposing their faith on the Organization. The cooperation and assistance extended towards the cause of this event by the District Administration, the Peren Town Council, and Friends Inter Trusteeship Alliance (FITA), principal, All Saints Higher Secondary School, the participants and the denizens of Peren district is acknowledged and the Bridge remain indebted to them for this.
