Model Noyonika Chatterjee has moved base to the country’s capital. So it was a pleasant surprise to see her sashay at the recently concluded couture week in Mumbai.
“After my daughter Nayantara was born (now almost 6 years old), I had to cut down on my travelling. So, I mainly walk for the Delhi fashion week. In any case, Mumbai’s choreographers don’t seem to miss me much,” she laughs. “I have already sold my flat here. So I don’t come here all that often,” admits Noyonika, who has done a small role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming movie Fashion.
“I wouldn’t call it a role; all I did was walk down the ramp. You will barely see me in the movie. But it was different from our usual rehearsals. In films, they do so many retakes! I had to shoot for 14 days and for a large part of the shoot, I was clad in the same outfit. Now, I hate the sight of it!” she laughs, adding that she’s not meant for the movies.
“Movies need a lot of time—that too time away from home. Priyanka (Chopra) even asked me to assist her in her styling, but I had to turn her down as it was making too many demands on my time,” notes Noyonika, whose daughter too has walked the ramp for a few shows. “I will support my daughter’s choice – whatever it may be. She’s too young now—so she keeps changing her plans every two days,” she winks.
Coming back to her career Noyonika says, “The industry has become more organised and professional. At the same time, it has become very superficial and commercial; you are because of your work and nothing more. So staying around for the next five years sounds like ‘pushing it’,” she emphasises.
What then are her plans? “I plan to begin with an exhibition of kids’ products—toys and the like. I will expand and maybe even set up a kids’ store,” she reveals.
What are her other interests? “I love music, reading and going for the movies. Also, Delhi may be a beautiful place with good roads and monuments, but Mumbai’s people definitely score higher in comparision. I love Mumbai a lot,” she smiles.
