Kohima Surumi Community (KSC) observed its silver jubilee Saturday at State Academy Hall, Kohima with MLA and Chairman, NHHDC Ltd Shetoyi Sumi as chief guest.
Addressing the celebration, Shetoyi said that the Surumi Community in Kohima has come a long way after its foundation way back in 1983 by some like-minded individuals who felt that a platform for the future generation should be set. He lauded these individuals for having the vision for the future generation and added that the fruits of their labour are being enjoyed by the present generation.
Stating that the jubilee celebration called for retrospection among the community, MLA said one should forgive and forget the past and the community should be torch bearers for other villagers from Suruhuto area residing in Kohima. He also said the good examples set by elders should not be forgotten for accommodating fresh ideas and concepts.
Shetoyi said the concept of individualism should be avoided in matters of community involvement and one should seek God’s blessing in all matters. The chief guest also unveiled jubilee memoir and souvenir at the function.
Greeting the Surumi Community in Kohima on its 25 years of existence, Vitoshe Rochill, President, Suruhuto Range Union Kohima lauded the community for having traversed through the years, setting an example for other villages from Suruhuto range by exemplifying unity and cooperation between the community.
The KSC felicitated all the past and present office bearers of the community during the celebration. Special highlights of the programme included cultural presentation in songs and dance presented by Kohima Surumi Community and Dimapur Surumi Community. Welcome speech was delivered by Vetokhu Yeptho,chairman, Jubilee Planning Board while the vote of thanks was proposed by Howoto Jakhalu, Secretary, KSC.
