An attractive bid for all Korean buff, the Arirang Fan Club will be selecting ten soloists who can sing in Korean to participate at the upcoming Korean India Music Fest to be held December 2 at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima. The competition is open for everyone, including the Arirang fan club members.
In this regard, all Arirang Club members and other interested persons have been called for a meeting on November 6, 3 p.m. at The Heritage (old DC Bungalow) at Raj Bhavan area Kohima. Prizes for the winners of the competition would be sponsored by the Arirang TV, Korea. VJ of Pops in Seoul, Isak, would also visit the music fest, where club members would get a chance to interact with her on December 3.
Addressing a press conference, managed by Concept Relations, held at Dream Café on Monday, Theja Meru said that it was a crucial time for the Nagas to have international friendship as the world shrinks closer into a global village.
He added that Nagas have now started to embrace their own culture, stating “as we celebrate others, we learn to celebrate ourselves.” A mode to connect with Korea through language, the Arirang Fan Club had earlier initiated a Korean language class which started in February 2008. Taught at Kolkata under the sponsorship of the chief minister’s corpus fund, Kusalü, Thepusa and Pipen, have twenty eight learners under their tutorship comprising of students, government officials, and the like. The Korean language classes are conducted every week at Dream Café.
Commenting on learning foreign culture, Kusalü said that something good could be embraced from the Korean culture such as the good moral values, work culture, and the like. “Learning something new will not hamper what we already know”, she said. She further expressed hope that Korean culture would revolutionize Naga society towards prosperity.
While thanking the government for giving much recognition to Korean culture in the state, Kusalü also appealed the government to create opportunities to the people to learn more foreign languages.
