A seminar on career prospects for secondary school students organized by Rengma Officers’ Forum (ROF) was conducted on November 11at Tseminyu,
Director of industries and commerce, Kohima Er G. Keppen Rengma, who was the chief guest, presented a paper on the topic ’employment opportunities in private sectors for educated youth in the state’. He said youth today should change the mindset of obtaining government jobs alone as there were many other job avenues available in private sectors. Some of the important employment sectors he highlighted to the students were industry enterprise; hospitality or tourism service; agro-food processing including horticulture sector; financial or bank sector; IT sector; construction sector; women based self help group sector; transport sector; opening of educational or vocation institutions and job oriented courses.
He encouraged the students to avail educational exposure trips outside the state to enhance their horizons for future and also to take part in various state government organized programmes for the welfare of the students’ body as they are very beneficial.
Zavise Rume, SCERT, Nagaland Kohima also presented a paper on the topic ‘career prospects in modern education’. He enlightened the students on the availability of various vocational courses on completion of secondary school in three streams such as science stream, arts or humanity stream, commerce and vocational courses.
The seminar also dwelt on career opportunity for matriculates, diploma course offered in polytechnic institutes for class 10 passed students, career opportunities after 10+2, career in paramedicals, examination conducted by NPSC Nagaland, Kohima, competitive examination conducted by UPSC New Delhi, Staff Selection Commission exam and job selection and aviation sector etc. All schools of the sub-division attended the seminar. The programme was chaired by Gwasinla, Senior academic officer and president, Rengma Officers’ Forum.
