Cherie Blair caught in Punjab politics

Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira wrote a letter to Cherie Blair objecting to her comments about senior Akali Dal leader Jagir Kaur on Tuesday. Blair told in a gathering at a government school in Punjab’s Kapurthala district, to consider Jagir Kaur as a ‘role model’.
Cherie had said, “The founder-chairman of the Pushpawati Loomba Trust Raj Loomba and the first woman SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur should be role models for boys and girls.”
Khaira objected the same and said, “Cherie Blair sending out wrong message to girls by asking them to emulate Jagir Kaur.”
Khaira objected to Blair’s comment as he claimed that Jagir Kaur is facing a criminal trial for conspiring to kill her daughter in 2000 for marying against her wishes.
But Jagir Kaur has questioned Khaira’s need to send the letter to Blair, saying that Blair does not need Khaira’s permission to say anything. The senior Akali Dal Leader said, “Does she (Cherie Blair) have to ask him (Khaira) for permission before she says anything? I didn’t tell her to say anything about me. Has she passed a law for people to consider me as a role model? She only said what she was feeling.”
Cherie Blair was invited by a London based NRI to inaugurate a government building.
